Vault City are seeking an experienced and technically capable Packaging Operator to take a leading role in the execution, optimisation, and continuous improvement of our packaging operations. This role is suited to someone with hands-on packaging experience who is ready to take greater responsibility for machinery, quality, and day-to-day decision-making on the packaging floor.
This is a key operational role within the production team, with potential to evolve as the company grows.
Role Overview
The Packaging Operator will be responsible for the safe, efficient, and high-quality packaging of finished beer across all formats. You will take ownership of packaging runs, troubleshoot issues, maintain equipment standards, and help set best practices for others to follow.
You will work 4x shifts worked flexibly Monday-Friday between the hours of 06:00-20:30.
Key Responsibilities
Packaging Operations
- Independently operate, set up, and adjust packaging equipment including:
- Microcan CP10 canning line
- Kegging systems (steel and plastic)
- Lead packaging runs, ensuring output targets, quality standards, and changeovers are met efficiently
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical or process issues during packaging, escalating where required
Quality & Compliance
- Take responsibility for in-process quality checks (fill weights, carbonation, seam integrity, DOs, labelling)
- Ensure all packaged product meets Vault City’s quality and food safety standards
- Maintain accurate production and packaging records in line with SALSA requirements
- Support continuous improvement in quality control procedures
Cleaning, Maintenance & Preparation
- Lead CIP processes for packaging equipment, ensuring consistency and effectiveness
- Carry out routine preventative maintenance and basic mechanical adjustments
- Identify equipment wear or faults and coordinate repairs with management or external engineers
- Ensure packaging areas are clean, organised, and audit-ready at all times
Logistics & Stock Handling
- Oversee palletising, wrapping, and preparation of finished goods for despatch
- Operate forklifts safely (where qualified)
- Monitor packaging consumables and communicate stock requirements proactively
Team & Process Development
- Contribute to SOP development and process improvements
- Provide feedback to the Packaging Manager on efficiencies, issues, and opportunities
Key Skills, Experience & Competencies
Essential
- Proven experience operating beverage packaging equipment (brewery, drinks, or food manufacturing)
- Strong mechanical aptitude and confidence troubleshooting machinery
- Good understanding of hygiene, food safety, and quality standards
- Ability to work independently, prioritise tasks, and make sound decisions on the floor
- Comfortable with documentation and basic IT systems (MS Office or similar)
Desirable
- Experience with canning and/or bottling lines
- Forklift licence
- Experience working to SALSA, BRC, or similar food safety standards
- Full UK driving licence
