Finding Love in a Hop-less place
Get it? Because we rarely use hops? Anyway, unlike my puns, love and sour beer are two things that get better with time. At Vault City, we’ve always believed that beer is about more than just what’s in the can; it’s about the memories made while sharing it. Over the years, we’ve been lucky enough to witness some unforgettable love stories unfold over our beers, from surprise proposals using our limited-edition Love Hearts cans to couples who made Vault City a part of their wedding day.
This Valentine’s Day, we’re raising a glass to those who found love with a little help from our brews. Here are a few heart warming stories from couples who said "I do" with our sour beer in hand.
Angus & Lydia
Some proposals come with a ring, some with a grand gesture - but for Angus, it had to come with a can of "Marry Me" Love Hearts session sour. Against the stunning backdrop of Orkney, he popped the question to Lydia with a can of our love-themed brew in hand. Though she knew the proposal was on the horizon (they had picked out rings earlier that year), the Marry Me sour was an unexpected twiest and the perfect touch for these sour beer lovers.
"I proposed to Lydia in Orkney in July 2023. The Vault City can was a complete surprise and I'd even bought a second can for the wedding. It was our first drink together off the aisle!"
Emily & Beth
Our Love Hearts session sours were released in time for Valentine's Day in 2023. Among the special edition labels there was one that felt perfect for Emily and Beth. This lovely couple met through rugby while Emily was working as a teacher and Beth was studying at university. 7 years later they are happily married and still love sour beer.
"One day we decided "let's just get married". No one had officially asked each other. We both loved Vault City and over the years Emily and I had ranted and raved about wanting the cans. I thought what a great way to ask her. I even dropped a hint saying "eeek, imagine being proposed to with those cans!" So, off I went to The Townmouse, Newcastle to get the cans I'd reserved. I asked our cat Louis for approval and reluctantly he said yes. A year later and we are happily married!"
Katie & Connor
This wonderful couple are self-confessed sour beer lovers and wanted to share their love for each other (and their love of Vault City) on the big day. Katie and Connor treated their guests to a unique wedding favour with cans of Strawberry Sundae and Cloudy Lemonade on every table - alongside an epic scotch egg tower!
"We're both sour beer fanatics and we always knew we wanted to serve Vault City at our wedding. They went down a storm and we think we even converted a few non-sour beer drinkers. After saying "I do" we enjoyed our first Vault City beers as man and wife!"

Annie & Matthew
This love story started with a love of Vault City and the pair have tried over 40 different flavours since then, with our scoop series, Stoopid sours and Iron Brew remaining their top picks. Annie and Matthew kindly invited us to their big day, which sadly we couldn't attend, but we were there in spirit and definitely in sours, with the couple sipping Iron Brew and Singapore Sling to compliment their wedding attire!
"We LOVE Vault City and we cannot live without it in our relationship. If we are being honest, it's one of the main reasons we are marrying each other!"
